TEOSYAL RHA 2 2x1ml – 23 mg/mL hyaluronic acid gel, 0.3% lidocaine
Teoxane manufactures TEOSYAL RHA 2 as a Class III device carrying CE marking. Its category is the dermal filler: volume is added where the gel sits, and the implant breaks down over time rather than remaining in tissue. Neighbouring products from the Teosyal line are held in the same warehouse.
Four separate planes are sanctioned rather than one. Teoxane lists intradermal deposition, the layer under the skin, the surface of bone covering, and, at the vermilion, tissue below the corium or beneath mucosa. That breadth is why a single syringe serves regions as different as the forehead and the vermilion border.
Reach for this product where several expressive regions need correcting in one appointment, and where projection in a single site is not the objective.
Product overview
| How correction happens | A crosslinked hyaluronic acid gel adds volume where placed, then resorbs |
|---|---|
| Indication as stated by Teoxane | Facial wrinkles and skin creases; added volume in facial tissue across upper face, periorbital, midface and perioral regions |
| Where it goes | Dermis; subcutaneous layer; supraperiosteum; beneath the dermis or under the mucosa at the vermilion |
| When it shows | At once, since the effect is mechanical |
| How long Teoxane estimates it lasts | 12 to 18 months, varying with skin type, site, quantity placed and patient physiology |
| Who it suits | Adults presenting wrinkles and creases across mobile facial regions |
Specification
| What it is | Crosslinked hyaluronic acid dermal filler; a sterile, clear, non-pyrogenic viscoelastic gel for injection |
|---|---|
| Made by | Teoxane SA |
| Regulatory position | Class III device, CE marked |
| Active | Hyaluronic acid at 23 mg/mL, non-animal in origin, mean molecular weight exceeding 1 million Dalton |
| Crosslinker | BDDE; crosslinking degree under 5% measured by NMR; BDDE residue under 1 ppm |
| Anaesthetic content | Lidocaine hydrochloride at 0.3% by mass |
| Buffer system | Phosphate, pH 7.3 |
| Keep at | 2 to 25 degrees Celsius, out of direct sun |
| Who may administer | Healthcare professionals trained and licensed under the law that applies to them |
Mechanism
Dermal hyaluronic acid content declines with age. This gel restores volume physically, occupying the plane into which it is placed and correcting wrinkles and depressions until resorption is complete. Across the Teoxane clinical study programme, aesthetic improvement of the treated site was recorded in 70 to 100 percent of patients, and satisfaction reported by patients stayed above 70 percent through six months from first injection.
Depth is dictated by anatomy here, not by the syringe. Four sanctioned planes, one device.
Treatment areas
| Region | Sites listed by the manufacturer |
|---|---|
| Upper face | Forehead lines and forehead depression, glabellar lines, temples |
| Around the eye | Eyebrows and crow’s feet |
| Central face | Nasolabial folds; smile and accordion lines |
| Around the mouth | Perioral rhytids; lips and philtrum; marionette lines; oral commissures |
Quantity per point and per appointment is governed by the instructions for use. Teoxane sets a ceiling of 6 mL in one session, and asks for the least workable quantity in sensitive sites, capped at 2 mL where lips are treated.
Browse by clinical objective: perioral area; furrows and folds; moderate wrinkles.
Administration
Suppliers approved by Teoxane provide the pair of sterile 30G 1/2″ needles boxed with every syringe. A blunt 25G cannula is permitted in their place, tested against the TSK 25G/50 mm; an appropriately sized sharp needle creates the entry. Further cannulas and needles are held in stock. Teoxane advises keeping its gels clear of quaternary ammonium salts, benzalkonium chloride among them. Where the needle colour shows through the skin as the gel goes in, the manufacturer reads that as placement too near the surface. Sites are massaged afterwards so the material spreads evenly, and injection stops well before the needle or cannula leaves the skin, which keeps product from tracking back out of the channel.
Safety profile
Pain, tenderness, erythema, bruising, swelling, induration, papules and itching occur at the site in 1 patient per 100 or more often; these are mild as a rule and settle unaided. Discoloration, inflammatory response, infection, short-lived numbness or paraesthesia, allergy, nodules and implant migration sit in the band from one per thousand up to one per hundred.
Placement inside a vessel or beside one carries the risk of embolisation, occlusion, ischaemia and necrosis of skin or tissue. Teoxane records these as extremely rare, while noting that the gravest occlusions have caused sight loss, temporary or lasting, and cerebral ischaemia or bleeding leading to stroke and, in some reports, death. Injection at the nose or glabella raises that risk, which matters on this card because glabellar lines are a stated indication. Blanching, mottling, pain or numbness at any stage means the injection stops.
Lidocaine is present, and can return a positive doping result.
Contraindications
- Skin disorder, inflammation or infection at the site or near it
- Known hyaluronic acid hypersensitivity, or a history of severe allergy or anaphylaxis
- Autoimmune disease
- Pregnancy, breastfeeding, or age under 18
- Known hypersensitivity to lidocaine or to amide anaesthetics
- Cardiac disease, or beta blocker therapy for it
- Porphyria, or epilepsy
- Hepatocellular insufficiency, or any therapy directed at liver disease
Teoxane further excludes the epidermis, the inside or vicinity of vessels and nerves, and any depth outside the dosage section; combination with peels, laser or ultrasound is excluded too. Nothing here substitutes for the instructions supplied with the device.
Frequently asked questions
What separates RHA 2 from the PureSense gels?
Two things: how much of the chain is crosslinked, and how wide the indication runs. Teoxane puts RHA 2 under 5 percent and PureSense under 10 percent, and lists four facial regions for RHA 2 rather than one treatment objective.
Are lips an approved site?
They are. Lips and philtrum appear in the instructions for use, and 2 mL is the stated ceiling there. Teoxane describes depositing the gel beneath the dermis, or under the mucosa of the vermilion.
What duration does the manufacturer give?
Between 12 and 18 months. Skin type, wrinkle severity, site, quantity placed, physiology and lifestyle all move that figure.
What comes in the box, and is a cannula allowed?
Each syringe ships with a pair of sterile 30G 1/2″ needles. Where a blunt 25G cannula is preferred instead, Teoxane has confirmed the TSK 25G/50 mm as compatible.
