Desirial was the first injectable hyaluronic acid gel developed specifically for female vulvovaginal restoration, with CE marking obtained in 2011. It belongs to the Desirial range by Laboratoires Vivacy, a line of cross-linked gels dedicated to women’s intimate health.
Desirial is designed for hydration of the vulvovaginal tissues in patients with vaginal dryness and associated discomfort, including symptoms of vulvovaginal atrophy in perimenopause and menopause, as well as vaginal dryness in patients undergoing treatment after cancer. The gel is intended to restore hydration and elasticity, soothe irritated areas and improve the quality of the mucosa. Its formulation contains mannitol, an antioxidant that protects the gel during the first hours after injection.
Desirial has its own clinical data in this indication. In a 12-week randomised, placebo-controlled multicentre study published in Maturitas in 2025, postmenopausal women with vulvovaginal atrophy received a single session of 1 ml of Desirial, injected superficially into the vestibular and vaginal mucosa of the lower third of the vagina with a 30G ½ or 27G ½ needle, and were then followed for 52 weeks. The authors reported a reduction in vulvovaginal symptoms and sexual dysfunction compared with placebo at 12 weeks. An earlier bi-centric pilot study in BMC Women’s Health (2021) described reduced dryness, dyspareunia and itching eight weeks after multipoint intra-mucosal injection.
