The platelet-rich plasma is a preparation obtained from the patient’s own blood. The concentration of platelets is much higher in it than in a natural physiological plasma. The PRP was used for the first time in medicine already in the 1980s during a cardiac surgery treatment. For a few years, the platelet-rich plasma has also been playing an important role in the aesthetic medicine. Find out in which circumstances this preparation can be used in order to increase the comfort and satisfaction of your clients!
The platelet-rich plasma – what is it?
The platelet-rich plasma is a product of tissue engineering. This autologous blood derivative preparation contains concentrated platelets that are suspended in a small volume of plasma. The PRP is obtained from the peripheral blood of the patient, then is subjected to the centrifugation process, the result of which is the separation of morphotic blood elements.
The platelet-rich plasma contains from 2 up to 10 times more platelets in a volume unit than the physiological blood. If the concentration of thrombocytes in the PRP is lower than a two-fold concentration, the preparation will not bring the desired results. On the other hand, the application of concentrations higher than a 10-fold concentration does not translate into better results.
Treatments with the use of the PRP – indications and results
The platelet-rich plasma in the aesthetic medicine is used above all in order to:
- revitalise the face skin.
- equalize the skin colour,
- increase the flexibility, density and skin tension
- smooth the wrinkles out
- revitalise the intimate parts
- cure alopecia (also of the male type)
- correct scars and stretch marks
- moisturise and rejuvenate the skin.
A combination of the platelet-rich plasma with the head skin mesotherapy brings incredibly satisfying results. A result of such treatments is a transition of hair follicles into an active state. This makes in turn that the hair begins to grow back.
A therapy with the use of the PRP also entails a reconstruction of collagen fibres and an improvement of the blood supply to the skin. What is important, the effects are visible already after 14 days from the treatment and usually for a several months.
Due to its strong regenerative properties, the platelet-rich plasma is also used after other undergone treatments. The PRP considerably speeds up the process of healing and regeneration of injured areas of the skin.
What does the treatment with the use of the platelet-rich plasma look like?
The treatment takes about one hour and its price depends on a given Aesthetic Medicine Cabinet. It usually amounts from PLN 1000 to PLN 2500. The treatment is carried out on the basis of the volumetry or mesotherapy. While using the second option, the preparation is injected into the skin. Whereas during the volumetry, the face contours are corrected through the introduction of the platelet-rich plasma linearly alongside the wrinkles. An injection is also used for this purpose.
A treatment with the use of the PRP is composed of three stages. First of all, the aesthetic medicine doctor is taking blood from the patient (it is recommended to do it in a lying position). The next step is to get the platelet-rich plasma from the blood. For an effective treatment, we need about 8 ml of the blood. The last stage is an injection of the platelet-rich plasma to the patient in the body area that requires a revitalisation.
